Built for Lenders in Zimbabwe

Loan management software for Zimbabwe's credit-only microfinanciers

Lendbox gives a microfinance institution or salary-based lender in Zimbabwe one US dollar loan ledger with accounting under it, so the figures in a Reserve Bank return and the schedule a borrower signs come from the same loan record. See how Lendbox compares with other loan management platforms.

How a Zimbabwean MFI runs its book on Lendbox

From payslip to a dollar schedule to the RBZ return

Salary-based lending dominates credit-only microfinance in Zimbabwe. These are the stages a loans officer in Harare or Bulawayo already runs; Lendbox keeps them on one record per loan.

  1. Borrower and employer on file

Add the borrower with the national ID, employer and EcoCash line on file, and let AI document verification check the uploaded ID and payslip before the appraisal.

  2. Affordability from the payslip

Run the affordability assessment from the payslip so the instalment offered leaves the borrower with what your policy says they must keep, then price the schedule in dollars.

  3. Approval and disbursement

Route the loan through the approval ladder, record the payout to the borrower's bank account or EcoCash line, and let the general ledger post the entries on activation.

  4. Stop-order and EcoCash repayments

Post an employer stop-order remittance as one bulk batch from the Excel template, and record EcoCash or transfer repayments against the loan as they land. Reminders go out by SMS, email or WhatsApp.

  5. Arrears and the Reserve Bank return

Ageing buckets and portfolio at risk by product, branch and officer give the days-past-due figures a quarterly return is built on, drawn from the loans rather than tallied at quarter-end.

Lending in Zimbabwe

Registered with the Reserve Bank, lending in dollars, reporting by the quarter

Zimbabwe registers credit-only microfinance institutions under the Microfinance Act and supervises deposit-taking ones more closely. Most lending is in US dollars, which keeps the book simple and the reporting precise.

Regulator

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (Microfinance Act)

Credit-only microfinance institutions register with the Reserve Bank and renew annually; deposit-taking MFIs are licensed and supervised more closely. Lendbox supplies the credit-side ledger with double-entry accounting, trial balance, P&L and balance sheet behind every loan.

Currency

US dollar loan books

Most microfinance lending in Zimbabwe is in US dollars. Lendbox runs the workspace in USD, so the agreement, the schedule, the statement and the financial statements all read in the currency the borrower repays in, with no conversion anywhere.

Loan classification

Days past due, with provisioning by class

Returns classify loans by days past due and provision against each class. Lendbox's ageing buckets give the per-loan figure to classify from, and the ledger carries the provisioning entries you post.

Credit registry

Credit Registry at the Reserve Bank, plus licensed private bureaus

Registered lenders submit borrower data to the Credit Registry. Lendbox keeps the full repayment history per borrower, so the record you submit from is the one your officers see.

Salary-based lending

Employer stop-orders and payroll deductions

Many MFIs lend against a salary with a stop-order through the employer. Lendbox posts a stop-order remittance that covers many borrowers as one bulk batch, one row per borrower, each landing on the right loan.

Money in Zimbabwe

Dollars in the book, stop-orders in a batch, EcoCash posted as it lands

The book, statements and reports run in US dollars, which means no indicative rates and no conversions anywhere on this page. Repayments reach you by stop-order, EcoCash or transfer, and Lendbox records them against the loan.

Books in USD

A dollar workspace means every loan, schedule, statement and financial statement is already in the currency your borrowers repay in.

  • Loan agreements and schedules printed in dollars
  • Trial balance, P&L and balance sheet in USD
  • Borrower statements with a running dollar balance

Stop-order and EcoCash repayments

Post an employer stop-order remittance as one bulk batch, and record EcoCash or transfer repayments against the loan when they land.

  • Bulk batches from the Excel template, previewed before they post
  • Officers post cash repayments from the mobile app
  • SMS, email and WhatsApp reminders before each due date

Affordability and staff loans

The affordability assessment reads the payslip and compares the proposed instalment with what is left; staff loans run on the same book.

  • Affordability read from the payslip, including by AI import
  • Staff loan repayments deducted on the pay run
  • Payslips emailed to staff from the run

Questions lenders in Zimbabwe ask

Does Lendbox run a Zimbabwean loan book in US dollars?

Yes. A dollar workspace keeps every loan, schedule, statement and financial statement in USD, with no conversion anywhere. If your book is in another currency, the workspace currency can be set to it instead; a workspace runs in one currency.

How do EcoCash and bank transfer repayments reach the loan?

An officer posts each repayment against the loan when it lands, or you upload the day's receipts as one bulk batch from an Excel template. Lendbox does not connect to EcoCash or to Zimbabwean banks, so nothing is pulled automatically.

Can it post an employer stop-order that covers many borrowers?

Yes. A stop-order remittance is posted as a single bulk repayment batch, one row per borrower, with a preview that flags any row that will not match before it posts, so a mismatched employee number is caught rather than misapplied.

Does Lendbox give the figures a Reserve Bank quarterly return asks for?

The quarterly figures come out of three reports: ageing buckets for days past due on each loan, portfolio at risk by product, branch and officer, and the ledger's trial balance, profit and loss and balance sheet. You apply the RBZ classification and provisioning to those numbers; Lendbox does not file the return.

Can the affordability assessment read a Zimbabwean payslip?

The affordability tab on a loan reads the payslip, including by AI import, and compares the proposed instalment with what is left after the deductions you enter. Zimbabwe's statutory lines are entered by you; there is no Zimbabwe payroll preset yet.

What does Lendbox cost for a lender in Zimbabwe?

Plans run from Basic, for one branch and one staff member, up to Enterprise, all charged in US dollars by card. Because a Zimbabwean book already runs in dollars, the pricing grid on this page shows exactly what you will pay, with no indicative rate and nothing to convert.
