Built for Lenders in Rwanda

Loan management software for Rwanda's SACCOs and microfinance institutions

Lendbox gives a SACCO or microfinance institution in Rwanda one franc loan ledger with accounting under it, so the portfolio figures in a National Bank of Rwanda return and the schedule a member sees come from the same loan record. See how Lendbox compares with other software for loan management.

How a Rwandan SACCO runs its loans on Lendbox

From member ID to a franc schedule to the BNR return

An Umurenge SACCO or a licensed MFI in Rwanda runs on member meetings, mobile money and a reporting calendar set by the central bank. Lendbox keeps the stages below on one record per loan.

  1. Member records

Add the member with the national ID number and MoMo line on file, or import the register from a spreadsheet, and let AI document verification check the uploaded ID.

  2. Application and approval

Capture the loan against the product and term the member qualifies for, then route it through the credit committee's approval ladder with every decision logged.

  3. Disbursement recorded

Record the payout to the member's MoMo or Airtel Money line or bank account, print the agreement and schedule in francs, and let the ledger post the entries.

  4. Repayments posted

Record a MoMo or Airtel Money repayment on the member's loan the day it arrives, or post a sector meeting's collections in one batch, with reminders going out ahead of each due date by SMS, email or WhatsApp.

  5. Portfolio quality and the return

Ageing buckets and portfolio at risk by product, branch and officer give the days-past-due figures a BNR return is built on, drawn from the loans rather than tallied at month-end.

Lending in Rwanda

One central bank, a national SACCO network, and a strict reporting calendar

Rwanda regulates SACCOs and microfinance institutions through the National Bank of Rwanda, with Umurenge SACCOs covering every sector of the country. Returns are frequent and the classification rules are precise.

Regulator

National Bank of Rwanda (BNR)

Microfinance institutions and SACCOs are licensed and supervised by the BNR, which sets capital, liquidity and portfolio quality requirements. Lendbox supplies the credit-side ledger with double-entry accounting, trial balance, P&L and balance sheet behind every loan.

Umurenge SACCOs

One SACCO per sector, under the BNR and the cooperative agency

Sector SACCOs lend to members from savings. Lendbox runs the lending side: loan records, repayments and arrears; the savings and share registers stay in the system the SACCO keeps them in.

Loan classification

Days past due, with provisioning by class

BNR returns classify loans by days past due and provision against each class. Lendbox's ageing buckets give the per-loan figure to classify from, and the ledger carries the provisioning entries you post.

Credit reference

Credit reference bureau licensed by the BNR

Licensed institutions share repayment data with the bureau. Lendbox keeps the full repayment history per member, so the record you report from is the one your officers see.

Money in Rwanda

Francs in the book, MoMo repayments posted, staff loans on the same system

The book, statements and reports run in Rwandan francs. Repayments reach you on MTN MoMo or Airtel Money, and Lendbox records them against the loan.

Books in RWF

Set the workspace currency to francs once and every loan, schedule, statement and financial statement follows.

  • Loan agreements and schedules printed in francs
  • Trial balance, P&L and balance sheet in RWF
  • Member statements with the running balance in francs

MoMo and Airtel Money repayments

A repayment that arrives on a member's line is recorded on their loan; a sector meeting's collections go in as one batch from the Excel template.

  • Batches previewed before they post, so a wrong member number is caught
  • Officers post cash repayments from the mobile app at the meeting
  • SMS, email and WhatsApp reminders before each due date

Staff loans

Staff loans run on the same book as member loans, with repayments deducted on the pay run.

  • Staff loan products priced separately from member loans
  • Repayments deducted on the payroll run
  • Payslips emailed to staff from the run

Questions lenders in Rwanda ask

Can Lendbox run an Umurenge SACCO's loan book in francs?

Yes. Set the workspace currency to RWF and every loan, schedule, member statement and financial statement is in Rwandan francs. Lendbox runs the lending side; savings and share registers stay where the SACCO keeps them.

How do MTN MoMo and Airtel Money repayments reach the loan?

An officer posts each repayment against the loan when it lands, or you upload a collection round as one bulk batch from an Excel template. Lendbox does not connect to the Rwandan mobile money networks, so nothing is pulled automatically.

Does Lendbox give the portfolio quality figures a BNR return asks for?

The report pack gives you what the return needs: days past due per loan from the ageing buckets, portfolio at risk by product, branch and officer, and the trial balance, income statement and balance sheet straight from the ledger. Classifying and provisioning stay with you, against BNR's categories, and the return itself is yours to submit.

Can several SACCO branches or sectors share one system?

Yes. Branches are set up in the same workspace, each with its own staff, and reports break down by branch and by officer. Plans are priced by the number of branches and staff members, so a single-sector SACCO starts small.

Is there a Rwandan payroll preset?

Not yet. The payroll module runs staff loans and pay runs in francs, but RSSB and PAYE lines are configured by you rather than shipped as a preset. Presets currently cover Kenya, Nigeria, the Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa and Zambia.

Is the site available in French?

Yes. The marketing site is available in French at lendbox.io/fr; the lending dashboard itself is in English, and borrower-facing templates can be written in French or Kinyarwanda in the document editor.

What does Lendbox cost for a lender in Rwanda?

From Basic for a one-branch SACCO or MFI to Enterprise, each plan is a dollar subscription paid by card. The pricing grid on this page shows the franc equivalent at an indicative rate when one is available; your card statement carries the dollar amount.
